Dosage Storage

The user adult dose of Mebatic Infusion is 700 mg once to twice daily through slow IV 2C_5infusion over 30 minutes for 3-7 days depending upon the type and severity of infection.

The duration of treatment depends on the response of the pathogen and the clinical condition, it is advisable to continue the treatment for at least 3 days after the resolution of fever and the disappearance of symptoms.

In acute infections treatment for 7-10 days is easily sufficient, the usual duration of treatment is 7-8 days for Salmonellosis, 3-5 days for Shiegellosis and 3 days for Intestinal Infections. Treatment time of 3 days is usually sufficient for uncomplicated lower UTI

In case of bone infections the treatment duration is 3-4 weeks or longer in some cases infections with beta-hemolytic Streptococci of proven sensitivity are treated. This treatment must last for at least 10 days in order to prevent late complications such as Rheumatic fever or Glomerulonephritis, however since the sensitivity of organisms vary treatment of these infections requires sensitvity to be established in each individual case with Mebatic
Dosage in Patients with Impaired Kidney Functions

The following dosage are proposed for patients with moderate to severe impairment of kidney functions as judged by the rate of removal of creatinine from the blood (creatinine clearance) or its content in the blood (serum creatinine). The first dose depends on the type and severity of disease and is the same as in patients with normal kidney functions, the maintenance dose should be reduced as follows
Creatinine Clearance Serum Creatinine Maintenance Dose
50 to 20 ml/min 1.5 to 5 mg/dl 700 mg Mebatic/day
<= 20 ml/min >= 5mg/dl 350 mg Mebatic/day
Hemodialysis or Peritoneal dialysis 350 mg Mebatic/day
In some cases it may necessary to increase the above mentioned dose
Dosage in Patients with Impaired Liver function

The excretion of Mebatic may be reduced in patients with severe impairment of liver functions (e.g. in the case of cirrhosis of the liver with ascites). It is therefore advisable not to exceed maximum daily dose of 700 mg Mebatic in such cases. Dosing interval to be doubled for safety
Dosage in Patients with hepatic Impairment

In patients with liver cirrhosis the elimination half life is prolonged (22 versus 13 hours) and clearance lower (35 versus 51 ml/min) compared with healthy subjects. The dosing interval should be doubled in patients with severe hepatic impairment.
Dosage in Patients with renal Impairment

Dosage should be adjusted for patients with creatinine clearance Creatinine Clearance Maintenance Dose Frequency
20-50 mL/min The usual recommended unit dose q24h
<= 20 mL/min ½ the usual recommended unit dose q24h

When only the serum creatinine is known, the following formula may be used to estimate creatnine clearance

Women = 0.85 x the value calculated for men

The serum creatinine should represent a steady state of renal function
Dosage in Neonates and Children

Not advisable to give Mebatic to neonates

Management of patient should consist of symptomatic and supportive therapy

Maebatic solution for infusion is a 100 ml single use glass bottle and should be stored at 25°C ± 5°C and protect from sunlight
